I speak English reasonably well and once spoke French to A Level standard. As an adult, I spent two weeks in Paris, generously funded by the British Council, to improve my French and my teaching of it. A child in a Parisien primary school made my day by telling me she loved hearing me talk French, then killed me by explaining how hilarious my accent was!
So I decided to abandon French for the purpose of a badge in favour of Spanish. I downloaded Duolingo (the free version) and I'm away. Three weeks in and I can do greetings, discuss tomatoes and apples, and tell you how pretty my dog is.
I'm finding it harder to put the time in now the Easter holidays are over but plan to keep going till I can name a full range of salad ingredients.
Wish me luck.
Well done! I used to be a languages teacher - teaching French and German, and I went to university in Wales, where I learned Welsh in my first year. I have ‘dabbled’ a little in Spanish, and having seen people commenting about their experiences of Duolingo, I think I may be trying it before too long (although I really want to get the hang of Morse code first…)
