One of the most beautiful people I have ever known was my incredible niece, Jax Rohen. She was really talented in so many ways, including having her novel How to Marry Your Husband published, having entered a competition for new novelists. Tragically, she died quite unexpectedly just days before publication date. It's a wonderful book, full of warmth and humour, really worth a read.
That wasn't a review but I do highly recommend the book.
So, I saw a show tonight and I had decided beforehand to review it for this badge. However, I really didn't enjoy it and Julie and I were talking on the way home about the ethics of being critical. My lovely Jax reviewed a lot of books, all part of her writing journey, I guess. If you google, you can quickly find loads of her reviews and it's immediately apparent that she gave 4 - 5 star ratings to everything she reviewed. It's certainly not the case that she rated everything she read that highly and she did not lie, but she felt that if she didn't enjoy a book, then it wasn't for her and so what business did she have in saying uncomplimentary things about someone's work.
So, in the spirit of Jax, and with a bit of coaching from Julie who liked it more than I did, I'm going to tell you that the stage show closely matched the screenplay and that the audience seemed to really enjoy it.
It wasn't for me and so I can't really recommend it. Stay home instead and get stuck into a book. I can definitely recommend one of those!
